Gunn replied to a Twitter user asking if there had been a good prequel. Among his responses, we find some seasons of 'Smallville', 'Better Call Saul' and 'X-Men: First Class'. At the time when one of the netizens asked about 'The Peacemaker', the director explained that it was going to be a sequel.

The series will consist of eight chapters full of action and adventures united by a comic tone and in them, John Cena will once again play the hero who believes in peace at any cost. The cast will consist of Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Chris Conrad, Annie Chang, and Sophie Song, among others. In addition, it will feature Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland who will repeat as John Economos and Emilia Harcourt, as we saw them in 'The Suicide Squad'. It will premiere on HBO Max in January.

A new expansion of the DC Universe

'The Peacemaker' will not be alone in his fierce fight for peace but will be at the head of other superheroes in charge of it. According to Casey Bloys, director of content for HBO and HBO Max, Cena spoke like this about the director of the series: "He has the unique ability to create an expansive universe while bringing the soul and ingenuity of each character to life."

For his part, Gunn declared: "The Peacemaker" is an opportunity to delve into current world problems through the gaze of this superhero/supervillain / and the world's biggest idiot. I'm excited to expand 'The Suicide Squad' and to bring this character from the DC movie universe to the extension of a series. "
