IPL: Punjab Kings' thrilling win over KKR, Rahul played captain innings


In the 45th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 wickets. In this match played in Dubai, KKR, batting first after losing the toss, scored 165 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Punjab Kings achieved the target of 166 runs in 19.3 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Punjab registered its 5th win in 12 matches. At the same time, KKR had to face the 7th defeat in the same number of matches. Rahul got out on the second ball of the last over of the innings after scoring 67 runs. He was caught by Shivam Mavi off Venkatesh Iyer's ball. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in 55 balls.


Chasing the target of 166 runs, Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave a great start to Punjab. Both also made an opening partnership of 70 runs. Varun Chakraborty broke this partnership when Mayank was caught by Morgan. Mayank hit 3 fours and as many sixes in his innings of 27 balls. Then Varun also sent Nicholas Pooran (12) to the pavilion.


Aiden Markram was victimized by Sunil Narine and caught by Shubman Gill on the third ball of the 16th over of the innings. Markram hit 1 six in his innings of 16 balls. Deepak Hooda (3) could not do anything special and Shivam was caught by Mavi on Tripathi.

   

Venkatesh Iyer played a brilliant innings

Venkatesh Iyer, playing his first season, scored his second half-century performing amazingly. He hit 9 fours and 1 six in his innings of 49 balls. He returned to the pavilion as the team's third wicket, when he was caught by Ravi Bishnoi on the fourth ball of the 15th over at the hands of Deepak Hooda. He also added 72 runs for the second wicket with Rahul Tripathi. Iyer scored 67 runs.

   

Kolkata got the first blow on the team score of 18 when Shubman Gill (7) was bowled by Arshdeep Singh. After this, Venkatesh took the innings forward with Rahul Tripathi and shared a 72-run partnership for the second wicket. Tripathi was caught by Ravi Bishnoi on the third ball of the 12th over of the innings at the hands of Deepak Hooda. He scored 34 runs in 26 balls with the help of 3 fours and 1 six.

    

Captain Morgan (2) could not do much and Mohammed Shami sent him to the pavilion. Nitish Rana played fast-paced innings of 31 runs in 18 balls, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes. He was caught by Mayank Agarwal on Arshdeep Singh's ball and half the KKR team returned to the pavilion till 149. Debuting Tim Seifert (2) was run out. Arshdeep bowled Dinesh Karthik (11) on the last ball of the innings. Sunil Narine returned unbeaten after scoring 3 runs.
